Where Is Ramsay Street in ‘Neighbours’?

You should be so lucky, lucky, lucky, lucky that it’s easy to pinpoint where the real-life Ramsay Street on the long-running soap opera “Neighbours” is.
It’s in Australia, the Lucky Country, of course, but where, mate? Ramsay Street is supposed to be in a Melburnian suburb called Erinsborough, but that's pure fiction.
The filming location is a real cul-de-sac called Pin Oak Court in Vermont South, around 24 kilometers from central Melbourne. "Neighbours" fans have turned the beloved dead-end street into a bona fide pilgrimage site.
But the inspo for Ramsay Street is actually in faraway Brisbane, hometown of series creator Reg Watson.
Watson, who went on to live in the UK, realized how life in the Queensland city was so different to that in London or even Birmingham.
"Over there, and also in Sydney, it was possible to live in the same street for years and never meet your neighbour," he told Perfect Blend. "In Brisbane, 20 years ago, you knew almost everyone in your street and what a diverse, friendly lot they were! I was also aware of the lack of communication between parents and children, particularly teenagers. I thought how interesting it would be to have a family where the children could ask their parents anything and get an honest answer, hence the Robinsons."
Further inspired by British soaps such as "Coronation Street," Watson launched "Neighbours" in 1985. At a time when soaps thrived on scandalous storylines, "Neighbours" was revolutionary for its relative wholesomeness.
The Anglosphere was smitten with the Australian-soap-that-could. The cast was flown to Britain in 1988 to perform at the Royal Variety Show before the Queen Mother, and the show eventually made its official US debut by syndication in 1991.
Many of its actors went on to global fame. Margot Robbie, Russell Crowe, Guy Pearce, Chris Hemsworth, and Kylie Minogue all built fabulous careers that extended far beyond Ramsay Street.
"Neighbours" ultimately became Down Under's longest-running soap. To borrow lyrics from Charlene's real-life counterpart, Australians simply can't get it out of their head.
