South Korea may have already been a dream destination for K-drama and K-pop fans, but for cinephiles, it ultimately made its mark on the global set-jetting map the moment "Parasite" made history. It’s only the first non-English language film to win the Academy Award for Best Picture.
One of the film’s most instrumental scenes unfolds early on, when Kim Ki-woo (played by Choi Woo-shik) meets a friend outside a modest store called Woori to plot his tutoring gig.
In reality, the Woori store goes by a much humbler nickname: "Pig Rice" or Doijissal Supermarket, nestled in a quiet corner of Seoul.
To find it, skip Google Maps (South Korea restricts foreign server data storage, so local apps are far more reliable). Instead, fire up Naver Map or KakaoMap and punch in this address:

Once you arrive, don’t just snap a photo. Show some love to the elderly couple who run the place. Grab a drink or a snack, and they might just serve you right outside, at the very table where Ki-woo once sat under that unmistakable umbrella.
When I visited, I was struck by how the street lamps cast such a warm, cinematic glow. It was bright enough to mimic the daylight that falls so dramatically on Kim Ki-jung (Park So-dam) in the film.
